During the week I spent in a guest lodge in Akureyri, Iceland, I developed a practice of nestling into my favorite chair and drawing in an open and curious way. I felt dislocated in several ways and was looking to drawing as a practice of soothing and grounding. The striking features of Iceland’s landscape — volcanic mountains, glaciers, fjords, and solemn trees — took on mythic qualities in these works. The delicate fibers of the handmade paper required that my pen and pencil marks be deliberate and gentle. The resulting drawings bear traces of my contemplative wandering.
